Thinking About Success

This is how I would rank the different aspects of success by importance:
1. Hardwork
2. Skill
3. Opportunity
4. Luck

However, if we were only talking about economic success in terms of money, this is how I would rank them:

1. Luck
2. Opportunity
3. Skill
4. Hardwork

At first I ranked all of the choices without really thinking about the question. I am one of those people who like to think that everything comes from hard work and knowledge but in reality, this is not the case. The guys who created Facebook did not skillfully plan out when and how they were going to create something new, they saw an opportunity and saw that there was nothing else like it, therefore, the timing was perfect. But they did not know at the time that Facebook was going to be a major hit. The creators got lucky and luck was what really made them make all of their money. I ranked these two things in my top two because it is the reality of things. Skill is third because it is one thing to create something that is amazing but it is an entirely different thing to maintain its success. That takes skill because it is important to know and understand how to keep people wanting your product so you are able to keep making money. Sadly, hard work is at the bottom of the list because it is the one thing that people don't get to see or care to see. Everyone has to work hard for what they want even unsuccessful people. But we only remember the successful ones because the are the ones who made the difference. Although we would like to think that success is only accomplished with only hard work and skill, the reality is that most of economic success comes from luck and timing. This is because the economy is unpredictable.
